Clutch
An automobile has to operate under varying load condition or fluctuate of speed on the road. We know that when we started engine and also during gear changes , it is necessary to cut off load upon the engine.
The clutch is a mechanical device to continue and discontinue load on the engine.(Answer key- Clutch connect or Disconnect two rotating shaft).
Where clutch is to be installed:-
The clutch is installed between engine and transmission. In two-wheeler there control(lever) is placed in left hand side of handle and in four-wheeler or more than four wheel automobile it is placed in passenger cabinet it is linked by padle.
How it works:-
The clutch is linked to the clutch padle in the passanger compartment. When the driver presses down on the clutch pedal the linkage between shaft, got disengaged. This uncouples the engine from the transmission. When the driver release the clutch pedal , spring in the clutch got engaged to the shaft . Now power can flow from the engine , through the clutch to the transmission or Power train.
When the clutch pedal is in the released condition (I.e. when the clutch is engaged) the pressure plate is pushed solidly in direction of the flywheel by the diaphragm springs, which is located inside clutch cover. This action binds the friction disc between the two driving members. These three components then rotates as one ,allowing the rotation of the engine to be transferred to the transmission.
